The Oscars have released the list of films eligible for consideration in the International Feature, Feature Documentary, and Animated Feature categories.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday the list of films that are eligible for the 2024 Oscars in the categories of Documentary Feature Film, International Feature Film, and Animated Feature Film.
167 documentaries have been selected for consideration at the 96th Academy Awards, with 88 countries being eligible for the International Feature category. The shortlists for both categories will be announced on December 21.
Sirin (Senad Šahmanović), Montenegro, category: International Feature
Šahmanović’s first film showcases the talented Danica Ćurčić, known for her role in Murina, as a lawyer who comes back to Montenegro after two decades abroad. She is tasked with handling a legal matter related to an inheritance and the local Orthodox church in her hometown. The film was awarded the Pack & Pitch at Sarajevo CineLink and received the best pitch accolade at Kosovo’s Pristina Film Festival. Jasna Đuričić, May-Linda Kasumović, Marko Baćović, and Nikša Butijer are among the talented cast members of the film. The screenplay was co-written by Šahmanović and Claudia Bottino. The production involves Montenegro’s Cut-Up, Croatia’s Sekvenca, Albania’s On Film Production, Kosovo’s Buka, France’s Alliance de Production Cinématographique, and Bosnia’s Dokumen. Montenegro has submitted to the Oscars 10 times, but has yet to secure any nominations. International sales: To be confirmed
